“Buffet Height Support Marquetry. Attributed To Diehl 1860”
Splendid buffet in sycamore marquetry, amaranth and magnifying glass by Charles Guillaume DIEHL German cabinetmaker born in 1811 and died in 1885. It opens to a ventail inlaid inlaid with an allegory of music. In a temple with carved pilasters of lions and pediment adorned with a lyre, a woman draped in the old age sits near a vase resting on a column. Chiselled and gilded bronze chopsticks adorn the tray and the facade. Charles Guillaume Diehl moved to Paris in 1840, 3 rue de Thrigny then 170 rue St Martin. He employs 600 workers in his workshops on St. Sebastian Street. He works with bronzier Brandely, participates in the world exhibitions successfully and receives many medals.
