François-Gabriel Lépaulle, born in 1804 in Versailles and died in 1886 in Ay.

He was a pupil of Bertin, Vernet, Régnault. Entered the school of fine arts, he began at the salon of 1824, then exhibited every year.

History painter, portrait painter, he made portraits of politicians during his many trips. One can admire at the Palace of Versailles the full-length portraits of Napoleon III and Admiral de Rigny.
